Kevin Durant's venture to join the Brooklyn Nets will give him the opportunity to once again form a team from the ground up after spending three seasons with a well-constructed Golden State Warriors roster. Yet the two-time Finals MVP doesn't have any delusions of making the Nets a supernova of a team like the Warriors' dynasty was during his time there.
Durant laid out his expectations to ESPN's Jackie MacMullan:

The anticipation is surely there, considering he has another year to go before he can rejoin the Nets in full strength and take the court alongside his new teammates. Players in the facility are basically in awe of him, even when it's just to take a few cracks at the hoop:
“He goes out and takes a couple of set shots — not jumpers — and the whole gym stops,” said general manager Sean Marks. “You can hear a pin drop. That's great for our guys, because they sense this guy is waiting in the wings. We're not waiting for him, but man, it's kind of a cool feeling to know he's coming.”
Durant is coming in with the expectation to build something from near-scratch, and that could be a daunting process. However, it seems that is something he wanted after foregoing the option to remain in Golden State and keep the dynasty alive.
