In his first campaign with the Boston Celtics, All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has found himself in a completely different environment for the first time in his NBA career surrounded by an entire roster of new teammates.
This has led to him having to quickly adjust to his new surroundings while also assuming the top scoring option role with Boston. It has contributed to the team's somewhat slow start to the season splitting their first four games.
With that in mind, former All-Star big man Al Horford has conveyed to the 25-year-old that the chemistry is still a developing and ongoing situation, according to Jay King of MassLive.com.
Horford on chemistry with Kyrie: "It’s a work in progress."
Irving: "I told him in the 3rd quarter, we're going to continue to get better"

There have been a few bumps along the way through the first few games of the season such as losing fellow offseason addition Gordon Hayward to a broken leg just five minutes into the season opener. This has required an adjustment of its own as now second-year forward Jaylen Brown and rookie Jayson Tatum have each been handed increased roles on the team to help fill the void left by Hayward.
Irving is also still figuring out the best way for him to be a more effective scorer as he's hitting just 37.5 percent of his attempts from the field and 32 percent from beyond the arc. These are both well below his respective career averages of 45.7 percent and 38.3 percent that he held in his first six seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It is still quite early in the season and these type of struggles came to be expected as he feels his way out in his new surrounding. Things should progress forward as the more experience he garners with his teammates and role.
