Marcus Smart survived the trade deadline and is still part of the Boston Celtics, but it looks like the Celtics are going to have to wait a little while to get him back in the lineup.
According to the Boston Celtics official Twitter account:
“Stevens says Smart (hand) will be re-evaluated tonight but the anticipation is that he will not be available until after the All-Star break.”
Smart has been held out of action since January 24th with a hand injury. Smart, frustrated with his recent play punched a picture on the wall at the team hotel and suffered a laceration on his hand that required 20 stitches.
This has been a common problem with Smart in his tenure. He has a little bit of temper that some time gets out of hands, he flops a little too much, and he tries to be the Celtics version of a tough guy.
On this apparent afternoon at the Celtics team hotel, it appears the tough guy act got a little out of control, and not only did he hurt himself, he also hurt his team and their depth, something Brad Stevens can't be happy with.

“I talk to him privately and I don’t share those private conversations, Marcus is a young kid, I love him. He knows we love him but when you have young kids, you talk to them like you would talk to your children…It’s a man’s world but sometimes we do childish things. I’m not just pinpointing Marcus, we all do. Marcus is a good kid and I’m a huge fan”
When Smart has been healthy, he has been a solid player for the Celtics. He is averaging 10 points a game and has been one of their best defenders.
While they've managed so far, the Celtics would like to have him back as they get set for a run heading into the playoffs, so hopefully, once the All-Star break is over he will be healthy enough to rejoin the team.
