The Boston Celtics suffered a bit of a scare in Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, as rookie Jayson Tatum went down with an ankle injury and didn’t return.
According to NBC Sports Boston’s A. Sherrod Blakely, Celtics president Danny Ainge said the X-rays on Tatum’s ankle revealed no fractures. However, the rookie will still have to undergo an MRI to determine the true extent of the injury.
Despite losing Tatum early and playing without Al Horford; who was suffering from a concussion, the Celtics still extended their league-best winning streak to 10 games with a 107-96 win over the Lakers.

Aron Baynes capably filled in for Horford with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Marcus Morris added 18 points. Fellow rookie Semi Ojeleye also set a new season-high with 26 minutes off the bench to help fill the void left by Tatum.
Tatum, the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft, is having a strong rookie season, averaging 13.5 points and six rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and 53 percent on three-pointers.
Tatum's fine play has been a major reason why the Celtics have been able to cope so well with the loss of Gordon Hayward for the season. That's also why potentially missing the rookie forward for an extended amount of time could be a significant blow to the Celtics moving forward.
