The Dallas Mavericks are going to have an interesting rest of the year because they have certainly played some good basketball this season under new head coach Jason Kidd, but they also have many areas that they do need to improve on.
Dallas has some bad contracts on the roster that they do need to think about dumping in order for them to bring in some more role pieces who can accompany Luka Doncic and help this team eventually win a championship. Dallas also desperately needs a guy who can come in and score 25 points a night next to Luka and be that second star that they desperately need.
In order for the Mavs to win an NBA championship and bring home what everybody in Dallas wants, they're going to need to avoid some major mistakes that could be made this year.
Let's take a look at three areas the Mavs must avoid in order to win an NBA championship and help this team in the future.

Mavs Must Avoids 2022
3. Have to pair a second star next to Luka
This is the biggest concern about this Mavs team because Luka is certainly good enough to be the number one option on a championship team and there's really no arguing about that. He's one of the best players that the game has probably ever seen and he is still young in his career which is going to make for a long and lengthy career that is filled with many accolades and hopefully an NBA title for Dallas.
What the Mavs do have to realize is that they're never going to win with their current roster and just having him be the number one option. If the Mavs want to have any success in the near future, they need to go out and get that second guy who can score 25 points per night next to Luka and be a star player.
If they do not pair him with a second star, the Mavs are going to continue finding the lack of success that they have found in the playoffs with only him as their number one option. No disrespect to Luka Doncic but no NBA team has really won a championship in the past few decades with only one star besides the Dallas Mavericks.
2. Kristaps Porzingis might be at his highest value
Article Continues BelowThe Mavs need to realize that Kristaps Porzingis isn't a bad player by any means but he isn't the player that this team needs. There are way too many questions about this guy and his inability to stay healthy and that needs to be a major factor in deciding to keep him around.
It is unfortunate because when he is on the court, he has been more than serviceable with his minutes. He's currently averaging 20.6 points per game and eight rebounds. He, unfortunately, hasn't been available as much as the Mavs were hoping for.
There is no denying that if he is on the court and healthy, he is certainly not a bad option for this team The Mavs have to factor in with how much money he makes, it would be smart for them to decide to dump that contract and go out and get somebody else who is better than him.
Since he has been playing so well for them while he is on the court, this could be the perfect time for the Mavs to decide to move him because he could be at his highest trade value yet.
1. Keep having fun and improving with Jason Kidd
There were many questions about the Mavs bringing in Jason Kidd a season ago but all those questions should be out of the window because he has done a very good job with this team. He didn't do too well of a job with the Milwaukee Bucks and that led to some questioning due to some rumors coming out that he just wasn't a good head coach and was also doing some fishy things in the locker room by making his players do things that they shouldn't have been doing.
It doesn't seem at the moment that they are doing anything like that because it looks like the Mavs are having a lot of fun while playing and Jason Kidd is a big reason why for that. They're currently 22-18 and hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference despite dealing with some injuries and a few players not playing as well as they could be.
He has clearly panned out better than many expected to and they need to just keep having fun and improving with him as their head coach. Dallas will find some success in the near future if they can go out and get that second star.
