Former NBA champion Dirk Nowitzki can't help but be taken aback with all the significant movements going on out in the West.
In an interview with German streaming platform DAZN (via Believe the Hype), the Dallas Mavericks superstar is amazed by the lengths that his Western Conference rivals will go through in hopes of standing a chance against the NBA's real juggernauts: the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“It’s incredible how the top teams build their talented squads and trade one player after another. It’s madness, but everyone wants to compete with Cleveland and the Warriors. Nowadays that’s only possible with more than one superstar in one team.”
The future Hall-of-Famer, who's played all 19 of his years in the big leagues as a Maverick, has never had the experience of having been tossed around the league. But Nowitzki does make a good point that in this era of the NBA, building a super team appears to be the best plan of attack for a viable shot at winning a championship, which makes all the recent shake-ups very plausible indeed.
If Nowitzki really wants to win a second title before he calls it a day, he best get Mark Cuban on the line ASAP and tell Cuban to start wheeling and dealing like in Dallas' seasons past to give ol' Dirk a top-flight supporting cast again for one last and realistic run at the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
