After one of the wildest seasons by any team in modern NBA history, the Dallas Mavericks are officially headed into the offseason. The Mavericks banded together to get a road win on Wednesday night in the first play-in game over the Sacramento Kings, but this hobbled version of Jason Kidd's group was no match for the Memphis Grizzlies in a 120-106 loss on Friday night.
In truth, only one Maverick brought their A-game to the floor on Friday. Anthony Davis was spectacular on the offensive end of the floor and carried Kidd and company. He was getting buckets from all over the court, barely keeping Dallas in the game throughout most of the first three quarters.
However, in the third quarter, Davis seemed to be struggling with an injury and limping around. He was getting ice on his groin, which he already missed time with this season, before continuing to play. In the fourth quarter, Davis was getting his right calf treated on the bench at a timeout before briefly returning.
All of this was happening in a game that was essentially out of reach for the entire fourth quarter. Mavericks fans blasted Kidd and the Mavericks on social media for leaving an injured Davis out there to dry.
The Mavs need to take AD out of this game badly, I don’t care if you’ve got a shot at winning it, don’t kill your best player and f**k up next season too just to get slaughtered by the Thunder in the first round.

The apparent injury didn't hurt Davis' production. He finished the game with 40 points and nine rebounds on 16-for-29 shooting. He was a constant source of offense for the Mavericks despite seeing double teams in the post and facing a lot of different looks, but it wasn't enough for this overwhelmed Mavericks group.
The good news is that Davis seemingly escaped this game without suffering a more serious injury and will now be able to focus on the offseason with the rest of the organization. Nico Harrison and the rest of the front office has a lot of work to do to get this roster back into contention, especially with Kyrie Irving slated to miss a large chunk of next season.
