DALLAS — Kyrie Irving has NBA Finals experience. He understands what it requires to win a championship. However, are their any major differences for Irving from a personal standpoint in this year's NBA Finals compared to his other NBA Finals?

“I'm healthy, man,” Irving said on Monday while speaking to reporters. “I don't have two screws in my knee going into it. I'm not laboring secretly or I'm not taking any antibiotics that I'm not supposed to or just any pain-killers that I'm not supposed to. That's all part of the sport. But it is an unhealthy relationship to have when you're laboring and you're trying to fix yourself through other mediums that are unnatural. It just feels good to be healthy and to have a solid grounding about myself going into it.

“Just a little bit longer, a little bit longer that we gotta hold onto playing hard and doing the little things in order to get us this championship.”

Irving wants to join the legends of the NBA and become a multi-time champion. Much of the discussion ahead of the 2024 NBA Finals will revolve around Kyrie and his time with the Boston Celtics. Irving, however, is focused on accomplishing the primary task of leading the Mavs to an NBA Finals victory.

Kyrie Irving has NBA Finals experience. The same can be said about Mavs head coach Jason Kidd. A number of players on the Mavericks do not, though. In fact, some players had never even played in the postseason before the 2023-24 campaign.

So what has Irving's message been to the team since Dallas clinched their spot in the NBA Finals?

“My advice to the younger guys is to enjoy every single moment and just don't allow any psychological media wars to happen where we get into words… Don't allow anyone to distract us or divide us. This is gonna be an international Finals. Everybody is going to be watching. Every Finals is international, but the world is watching so any little thing that you do somebody is waiting to pick up. Just have to find a consistent message and stick to it. This is just business.”

Having experience is pivotal. PJ Washington also revealed advice that Kyrie Irving and Jason Kidd have given the team ahead of the NBA Finals.

“I think it's very important (to have NBA Finals experience around the team), obviously been there and obviously won,” Washington said. “They told us… There's gonna be a lot of media, gonna be a lot of different things we have to do. But at the end of the day we have to stay together and stay poised. Just know we're there for a reason. We still got four more games to go.”

The 2024 NBA Finals projects to be exciting throughout. The Mavs are ready to go. With Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic leading the way, there is tremendous reason for optimism in Dallas.
