Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki was called “Seven” by his Mavs teammates last season as LeBron James inched closer to surpassing him on the all-time scoring list.
James is now the sixth all-time scoring leader in league history. Right below him is Nowitzki in seventh place. It was in their game against the San Antonio Spurs, specifically in the third quarter, where James booted Nowitzki down one spot.
But the 40-year-old doesn't seem to mind and even revealed that his teammates were already tagging him as “Seven” since last season. As per Marc Stein of the New York Times, Dirk Nowitzki believes that James will finish either first or second all-time if he doesn't slow down.

However, Nowitzki reveals that he has intentions of chasing James. Right now, he's out due to injury but is set to return to the Mavs anytime soon. And once he returns, Nowitzki admitted that the merchandise will be ready once he claims the sixth spot once again:
“I'm probably going to tell him when I see him that I'm going to try to catch him, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. The good thing is, like our P.R. guy Scott Tomlin always tells me, when I finally get back to No. 6, we've got all the merchandise already made — all the T-shirts, all the bobbleheads, all the gear. So it's a perfect situation.”
Dirk Nowitzki is an all-time great, but his interviews and sense of humor also deserve their spots in the Hall of Fame.
