There was some ugliness in the stands during the Dallas Mavericks' Game 4 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Chris Paul's mother, wife and two kids were seated by the Suns' bench, and there were physical incidents involving both his mom and wife, resulting in the expulsion of a Mavs fan. Paul addressed the matter on social media after the game.
Mavs head coach Jason Kidd was asked about what happened on Monday, but he didn't want to get into it:
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd declined to comment on the incident involving Chris Paulâs family and a fan during Game 4. âIâm only focused on whatâs happening on the floor,â Kidd said.

Article Continues BelowThis is a pretty weak response from Kidd. While it's no surprise that he wouldn't want to get into it too much, he easily could have denounced the actions and said there's no place for that kind of behavior from fans. That wouldn't have been hard to do, especially given the report that Paul's mom had hands put on her and Paul's wife was shoved in front of his children. CP3's wife was also reportedly followed up the aisle when she left her seat, and the family didn't feel safe.
Nevertheless, tensions are ratcheting up in this series, just like they are all around the playoffs. After it looked like the Suns would cruise to victory after going up 2-0, the Mavs bounced back with two consecutive wins. In addition to the controversy surrounding Paul's family, there was some controversy involving Paul on the court and his foul trouble in Game 4. CP3 wound up fouling out of the game and was unable to make much of an impact.
The series now heads back to Phoenix for a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday. The action on the court will be spirited, but let's hope there's no more ugliness in the stands. It's uncalled for and just shouldn't happen.
