Dallas Mavericks head coach, Jason Kidd, gave his honest take on the NBA's new foul rules, amid Luka Doncic's slow start. Doncic is averaging only 4.7 free throw attempts per game, which is by far a career-low.

Kidd had this to say,

With the rule changes [regarding] a lot of the non-basketball moves, I think you can see that the game is starting to clean up. I think the question is just the physicality of the no-calls that have been taking place. Not the jumping into or seeking a foul. It's more driving the ball, the hand-checking is at a high level right now. I think we're just trying to figure out, are we going to be consistent that way or are we going to start calling a lot more fouls and be here for four hours? So we're just trying to figure that out?

Jason Kidd's statement made sense as the Mavericks we're taking on the Miami Heat the day he made these comments. The Heat are one of the more physical teams in the league.

The fouls in the NBA have gotten cleaned up this year. Players like Luka Doncic and James Harden who were some of the best at getting to the free-throw line, are averaging career-low free throw numbers.

The NBA made it clear that there are not going to be any offensive players jumping into defenders, or any hooking on the offensive end. It has raised concern around the league but since the rule is still so new to the referees it makes sense that there are some questionable calls right now.

Luka and the Mavericks will have to work through this. The Mavericks take on the Spurs on Wednesday. They are 4-3 to start the season.
