Luka Doncic will have a lot of eyes on him this coming season after his incredible rookie campaign with the Dallas Mavericks. Some think that he would struggle to replicate his incredible rookie numbers now that most NBA defenders have an idea of who he is as a player. However, Mavs' Wonder Boy has no plans of being stopped as he revealed his ambition for the coming season: exceed what he did last year.
He talked with Eddie Sefko for the team site and discussed his goals now that the NBA season inches closer to returning. He talked about what areas of his game does he think will need improving.
Article Continues BelowWhen asked what he wants to improve most in his game over the 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists he averaged per game as a rookie – the best statistical season by a rookie since Oscar Robertson in 1960-61 – Doncic had a very simple, direct answer:
“Everything. Everything must go higher. That’s what I’m looking for.”
Hearing that from a franchise player must feel good for the Mavs fans. To have an established superstar who can carry the load immediately after Dirk Nowitzki's retirement is nothing short of incredible for the Mavericks organization.
Moreover, the fact that he will be playing together with Kristaps Porzingis brings shudders to most NBA defenders. The one-two punch Dallas have in their starting lineup will give coaches and players nightmares over who they will have to guard more.
It will be a tough season ahead for Doncic. But if he manages to impose his will the second time around, he will definitely be considered as one of the league's brightest stars.
