Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban couldn't be any more excited about the addition of Christian Wood to the team, especially as he pairs up with Luka Doncic.
The Mavs made a move for Wood this offseason, trading a slew of players and the no. 26 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft to obtain the services of the big man from the Houston Rockets. For Cuban, the 26-year-old is a “lot better than advertised.”
“I think (Wood is) going to surprise a lot of people,” Cuban said, via Mavs.com. “When he gets used to playing with Luka and gets used to his role, he can be a shot blocker, a rebounder, someone who can create offense and someone who can go for a lob. He’s just so, so versatile that we’re real excited to have him.”
Christian Wood is considered the Mavs' biggest acquisition, and for good reason. He helps resolve Dallas' big man woes, and with his scoring and rebounding, the team is expected to elevate their game and take it to the next level.
Article Continues BelowMark Cuban also has every reason to be excited about Wood and his partnership with Luka Doncic. After the trade, we explored how Wood fits nicely with the Slovenian guard, especially with his shooting.
Wood could actually become the perfect pick-and-pop partner for Doncic, having made 40 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes last season. Now that he's playing with an elite scorer and facilitator like Doncic, things could become easier for him offensively.
Of course it remains to be seen if Wood can live up to his potential with the Mavs, but things are certainly going in his favor to do just that.
