Kristaps Porzingis and the Dallas Mavericks will reportedly meet when free agency opens on June 30 and the Mavs plan to offer Porzingis a full five-year, $158 million maximum contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Watch Stadium.
The Mavs acquired Porzingis from the New York Knicks at the February trade deadline. Porzingis has fully recovered from the ACL tear he suffered during the 2017-18 season.

Before he tore his ACL with the Knicks, Porzingis was averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from beyond the arc and 79.3 percent from the free-throw line. The Mavs can't wait to deploy Porzingis out on the court with 2019 Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic.
$158 million is a lot of money to give to a guy who is coming off an ACL tear. The Mavs, though, have no other choice. Porzingis likely would have gotten a lucrative offer sheet from another team. A 7-foot-3 big man with unlimited range, KP's upside is still really high despite the ACL injury.
The Dirk Nowitzki era is over, which means the Mavs are now building around Porzingis and Doncic. In a perfect world, Dallas would like to add another All-Star player in free agency this summer to create a Big 3. We'll see if that actually happens.
