Dirk Nowitzki isn't messing around this offseason. Actually, it looks like the Dallas Mavericks big man is messing around a little bit. Nowitzki was caught on video by Mavs teammate J.J. Barea still throwing it down at 40 years of age. That's something that Dirk doesn't do very often anymore.
20 seasons in and Dirk's still reinventing his game 😂

Dirk has 353 dunks in his career, but a majority of those came in the first half of his career. His career-high for a season came during the 2004-05 season when he had 48.
But lately, dunks have not been a common facet of Dirk's repertoire. During the 2017-18 season, he only recorded one dunk. Nowitzki is on the wrong side of 40 so don't expect to see many dunks heading into next season.
Article Continues BelowHis game was always predicated on how he could stretch defenses and hit shots from the outside, but now more than ever. Nowitzki shot 40.9 percent from deep last season on 4.4 attempts per game.
Of course, Nowitzki doesn't have the same impact that he did when he was winning the MVP, but he can still bring a lot to the table for Dallas. The Mavericks are looking to jump back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference after a disappointing 2017-18 campaign. Dirk's experience could be invaluable during a possible playoff push.
Additionally, the Mavs bright young star, Luka Doncic could learn a lot from Nowitzki about how to transition into life in the NBA at a young age. Doncic is the future of the organization and Dirk is soon to be the past. It's unclear how much longer Dirk will stick around. Perhaps this season will be the year that Nowitzki passes the torch to Doncic.
