The Denver Nuggets saw respected team President Tim Connelly depart for the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he signed a big contract to take over as President of Basketball Operations. With Connelly set for Minnesota, the Nuggets moved quickly to name a replacement, announcing via Shams Charania that General Manager Calvin Booth would be assuming the recently-vacated role.

The Nuggets were reportedly keen on keeping Connelly within the franchise, but the Timberwolves' offer, which included ownership equity in the franchise, was too good to pass up. Thus, the Nuggets are moving Booth into the President of Basketball Operations role, where he'll look to build a championship roster around star center and reigning MVP Nikola Jokic.

The Nuggets reportedly hold Booth in high regard and he will have the backing of the organization in its pursuit of an NBA championship. With Jokic as the clear centerpiece, the Nuggets will have some key cogs returning from injury in 2022-23, including Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr.

Booth had a journeyman career in the NBA, spanning from 1999-2009. He played for the Wizards, Mavericks, Supersonics, Bucks, 76ers, and Kings throughout his time in the league.

He became a scout with the New Orleans Pelicans back in 2012 before joining the Timberwolves where he worked his way up to the role of director of player personnel. He joined the Nuggets in 2017 when he was named the franchise's Assistant GM, before taking over as GM in 2020. His role will now further expand following the departure of Connelly, and the Nuggets are hoping he can pull the strings to guide them to the NBA Finals.
