Center Andre Drummond may not be with the Detroit Pistons much longer. The two-time center is on the trade market, and on Friday news broke that the New York Knicks have discussed dealing for Drummond with Detroit.

According to SNY's Ian Begley, however, despite conversations not going far, the trade talks bringing Drummond to the Big Apple are “more than exploratory.”

No Pistons-Knicks deal for Andre Drummond is considered imminent, but New York's recent conversations with Detroit about Drummond were more than just exploratory talks, according to SNY sources familiar with the matter.

The 26-year-old Andre Drummond is averaging 17.8 points and a league-leading 16.2 rebounds a game for the Pistons, shooting 52.9% from the field. Teammate and All-Star power forward Blake Griffin underwent likely season-ending knee surgery this week, and the Pistons could be trading Drummond, too, to advance a rebuild in Motown. The Pistons also applied for a disabled player exception on Friday for Griffin's injury, which could help facilitate a potential trade in the near future that takes on cap space if that means Detroit has another asset, like a draft pick, attached to salary.

The Pistons, coached by former Coach of the Year Dwane Casey, are 11 games below.500 in an already-paltry Eastern Conference, but the franchise appears to be going to youth-movement path with Drummond on the trading block.

For the Knicks, speculation about veterans signed to short-term deals in the past offseason, like forward Marcus Morris and big man Bobby Portis, have gained the majority of attention ahead of the NBA's trade deadline next month. However, recent reports have also said that the Knicks do not want to be “sellers,” and instead they want to bring good, workable players for the future.
