The Detroit Pistons had an early exit in the playoffs after being swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. Although it's something that might be frustrating for other teams, the Pistons believe they have taken one major step down the road to becoming a contender.

Blake Griffin and the rest of the Pistons' players gave a lot of credit to head coach Dwayne Casey. In an interview with Pistons.com's Keith Langlois, Griffin said he had a lot of fun playing for Casey and that the team is very fortunate to have him:

“We are very, very lucky to have a coach like him. A coach who stands for and represents the things he does. He was great this season. I really enjoyed playing for him.”

Casey was fired by the Toronto Raptors last summer even after leading them to the best record in the East. The Pistons took advantage and immediately hired him. The veteran coach was tasked to help a rebuilding team become more competitive, and that's exactly what he was able to do.

Griffin was one of the people who wanted the Pistons to hire Casey, because even before he played for him, the 30 year-old All-Star heard a lot of great things about the coach. That even goes back to when the Los Angeles Clippers were thinking about hiring Casey in 2010:

“Talking to people that summer, you hear the same thing – that’s a really positive thing. Consistency. One thing everybody talks about with coach Casey is the type of person he is: great guy, very disciplined and cares about his players. I saw that through the course of the season.”

The Pistons have made it clear they want to be better, and if you're the team that holds the record for the longest losing streak in playoff history, there's really nowhere to go but up.

Casey plans to lead this team to success, and he has the support of his players.
