The NBA is working towards creating a league of inclusion and diversity, and Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey believes Adam Silver is to credit for the direction the Association is heading.

Silver, who took over the NBA as commissioner in 2014, has made it a point to promote diversity and inclusion. Now, coaches around the league — like Casey and Memphis Grizzlies head man J.B. Bickerstaff — are noticing.

“I think our league is probably the most diverse league, whether it's nationality, race, gender, whatever it is,” Casey told Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press. “I know we have issues as far as things are going on just like corporations in the world, but it starts with Adam's outlook. He really promotes that from a leadership standpoint of diversity, inclusion, the whole nine yards, but it starts with him.”

Casey alludes to the “issues” going on in the league, but he's quick to praise Silver's outlook for the league. The NBA is definitely heading in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go.

The recent scandal regarding workplace harassment within the Dallas Mavericks is a black eye for the league, and it could be a signal that the NBA isn't where it wants to be in terms of inclusion, diversity, and workplace culture.

Hopefully, Silver and the league can learn from the disaster in Dallas and use that negative experience to create a better workplace environment for everyone that works in and around the NBA. Silver appears to be taking steps in that direction, though, and it's clear that coaches are appreciative of him for it.
