Team USA captured the Gold Medal on the very last day of the games in Rio, with a big thanks to Kevin Durant who scored 30 points in the game to help the U.S. Men's team dismantle Serbia, 96-66, on Sunday.
Durant was one of Team USA's most lethal scorers, but didn't look to score aggressively early on in the tournament. However, once Coach Mike Krzyzewski noticed his passiveness, he decided it was time to have a talk with his star player.
Durant spoke with Mark Purdy of the Mercury News to talk about his early struggles into the transition as a deadly scorer.
I wasn't being myself. Coach sat me down and showed me some film of 2012. He said, ‘I want to see that guy again.' He just told me to be me.
I was trying too hard to sacrifice and make that extra pass, and I was taken away from my game. I guess I just woke up. When I'm smiling out there, screaming and beating my chest, showing emotion, that's when I'm really lost in the game. I got away from that.
Once the entire team changed their approach to the games after an intense practice, Durant also snapped back into form.
All of the criticisms over his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors seemed to be apart of Durant's mental block.
USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo noticed the entire transition.

He's gone through a lot of examination with the fact that he signed with the Warriors. said following the gold medal game. He's been under a little bit of pressure. And to see him bust out like he did here was wonderful. I think it's really going to help his psyche moving forward. I couldn't be happier for him.
Durant finished the tournament leading all players in total points for the second consecutive Olympics scoring 155 points.
Durant told ESPN's Marc Stein he was also happy for himself with a little push from assistant coach Monty Williams.
I can't let anybody steal my joy. Monty Williams used to tell me that every day; don't let anybody steal my joy.
It couldn't have come at a better time, because now he can focus on his new team, and help them win some basketball games.
