Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant is making headlines with his social media activity this offseason. This is nothing new for Durant, but it's furthering the narrative that he is soft and sensitive. Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki spoke about how he uses Twitter to interact with the fans — and haters — in his mentions. The Mavs star also touched on Durant's situation and how he isn't sure why KD chooses to interact with the fans that are “talking trash.”

Dirk has the right attitude, but he's in a totally different situation from Kevin Durant. While he makes some good points, it is difficult for anyone to speak about Durant's position when they've never been in it.
Dirk's spent 21 seasons with the same organization. He's never had to deal with questions about his loyalty or his attitude. When Durant jumped ship from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors, he invited all these criticisms.
Article Continues BelowDurant's growing more and more frustrated with the hate. Whether from the media or random fans on social media, he's clapping back more and more. If he wants to do this, he's free to do so.
But he could certainly learn something from Nowitzki. When the Warriors forward engages with the negative comments, he's only inviting more criticism. It only perpetuates the narrative that he's sensitive although Durant will swear that he's not.
Although their situations differ in a number of ways, Durant should take Dirk's advice and take himself less seriously. He just won two straight championships where he was the Finals MVP in both years. He's at the pinnacle of his profession, but he's still arguing with high schoolers on Twitter.
If he doesn't want people to think he's sensitive, perhaps he should be a little less sensitive.
