The Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks both have a pick late in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft. But because of their current roster situations and the bloated payrolls associated with them, both teams are looking to trade their first-rounders, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

The Warriors have the No. 28 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and already have an active roster cap of over $170 million for 2022-23, which is well over the projected $149 million luxury tax. Jordan Poole will become eligible for an extension on his rookie contract this summer, while Andrew Wiggins could also get an extension. Kevon Looney is set to be an unrestricted free agent. All three players have played key roles during Golden State's run to the NBA Finals.

The Mavs' active roster cap for 2022-23 is currently over $150 million, with Jalen Brunson set for a big payday this offseason. Luka Doncic's max extension is kicking in next season. Dallas is picking 26th in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Here's Fischer on these NBA Draft trade rumors:

The Mavericks and Warriors are searching for opportunities to acquire future draft capital for those selections, sources said, in the event a coveted player on their boards doesn't fall. Another possible outcome is that they will select international draft-and-stash players.

It seems these teams may be willing to make their picks if somebody they love is still on the board, but the preferred route is a trade because of these financial reasons. We'll see if anything comes together before the draft or on draft night for these Western Conference Finals opponents.
