Ahead of Game 2 of the 2022 NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics made sure to highlight the bigger issues at hand beyond the entertainment they bring.

On Sunday before they take on each other at Chase Center, the Warriors and Celtics wore orange t-shirts with the message “End Gun Violence.” Activism organizations are also featured at the back of the shirt in order to raise more awareness about the issue at hand.

It comes after the tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary school. There has also been several mass shooting incidents that followed after the tragedy, with Philadelphia also recently experiencing a mass shooting on South Street that is popular for its bars and restaurants.

In his pre-game presser for the NBA Finals showdown, Warriors head coach wore the same t-shirt and highlighted that “there are things that can be done to limit gun violence in this country,” per NBA Insider Keith Smith.

Kerr has been a massive supporter of gun control in the US, and his desire to make a change has been fueled by the recent mass shootings happening across the nation. After the Texas school shooting, the Warriors coach delivered a desperate and emotional plea for the US government to take action to prevent such things from happening again.

Hopefully the attention on the NBA Finals and the efforts of the Warriors and the Celtics can help in sparking change.
