D'Angelo Russell will have the chance to learn from one of the most innovative minds in basketball, now bound to play alongside a two-time MVP in Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. The newcomer is hoping to approach this new venture of his NBA career with open arms and an even more open mind, hoping to soak in as much knowledge as he can by sharing the backcourt with Curry, among many other championship-laden veterans and a terrific head coach in Steve Kerr:

“I think this situation gives me an opportunity to be a sponge,” Russell told Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. “I can learn a lot from everyone: a Hall of Fame coach – one of the winningest coaches ever – and from three different players who are Hall of Famers. It’s cool, man. This is a Hall of Fame organization that I get to be a part of.”

Russell has now tasted the playoffs for the first time in a quick one-and-out this past season after cracking the sixth seed and getting five games at that postseason stage with the Brooklyn Nets. Yet the Warriors have much greater ambitions if they do manage to crack a postseason spot, now hungry in a much different way after being hunted for the past five seasons.

The young lefty will have to adapt to playing off the ball and taking part in the team defense the Warriors have been able to establish during Kerr's tenure as head coach of the team — only a few of the many adjustments he will have to make to succeed in this upcoming season.

The willingness to do so seems to be there, and that's a great sign for a roster that will be much different than its previous iterations.
