The members of the Golden State Warriors' big three — Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green — all know their roles, and their chemistry together is unmatched. Their cohesive, seamless teamwork has won three championships and five straight Western Conference championships. Chemistry is why the whole trio will make the Hall of Fame inductee when each man retires.
Green is the leading facilitator for the Warriors. He has led the team in assists ever since the 2015-16 season. Stephen Curry has been the team's number one scoring option during that time. Most people assume Curry's made baskets have accounted for most of Green's assists.
However, statistics tell another story for the Warriors. Since Green's second year in the NBA, he's had more assists when passing to Thompson. Since the 2013-14 season, Green has 651 assists to Thompson and 592 assists to Curry. There hasn't been a single season when most of his assists came from makes by Curry.
There's a logical explanation for why this happened. Thompson is more likely to catch and shoot the ball when it is passed to him. That's how he wound up with a 60-point game for the Warriors on 11 dribbles.

Curry, on the other hand, dribbles the ball a lot more. He's the best playmaker on the court at all times, even though Green is the floor general. Curry is responsible for creating scoring opportunities for himself and others, while Thompson's job is to shoot it.
It's a job Thompson fully accepts, and he's not timid about letting anyone know.
“One game, we were up 3 with 15 seconds left and somebody threw the ball to Klay. At this point, you just hold the ball. As soon as it touches his hands, Klay shoots it. Draymond was like, “What were you doing? Why would you shoot that?” Klay said, “Dog, they pay me to shoot the ball,” Festus Ezeli told The Athletic in an interview about Thompson.
Thompson will miss some games to start the season for the Warriors, which will give Curry a head start on getting some early assists from Draymond Green, and maybe for the first season ever, most of Green's assist will be from passes to Curry and not Thompson.
