The Golden State Warriors have laid claim to yet another NBA title with their second straight and third in the last four years. It has pushed them forward as the next dynasty in the league behind a dominating performance in the NBA Finals after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Golden State is already expected to re-sign the reigning back-to-back NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant, which will keep the core group together through at least next season. According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, team owner Joe Lacob is already looking ahead toward getting both All-Stars Klay Thompson and Draymond Green under new long-term contracts.

“All good things cost a lot,” he said simply. “We're going to try to sign Klay and Draymond to extensions this summer. They've earned the right to do whatever they want; maybe they want to wait until free agency. I can't control that. But we'll do whatever we can to keep them.

“We've proven that if we think we're competing for a championship, we'll be in the luxury tax. No one wants to be, but we expect to be. All I can tell you is we're going to sit down and do our planning on how we're going to improve the team for the future and setting ourselves up in the future. And it could go a number of different ways.”

There have already been talks about the Warriors being in discussion to extend Thompson over the last few weeks as he's set to enter the final year of his four-year, $68.9 million deal. He could be in line for a new deal that could completely top that while keeping him for the long haul in Golden State.

Meanwhile, Green still has two years remaining on his five-year, $82 million deal that Lacob is looking to get ahead of any possible hurdle coming about in getting a new contract done. The 28-year-old has been a vital part of the puzzle as the key piece that has helped lift the franchise into becoming the unquestioned top team in the league behind their tremendous amount of success over the last four years.

The Warriors have a clear plan from the top on down to keep their core group together for the next several years that should see them continue to compete for more NBA titles.
