As the Feb. 7 trade deadline is fast approaching, Golden State Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers downplayed the assumptions that the various trade rumors are negatively affecting the team's locker room.
Myers noted that rumors and all sorts of criticism have followed the Warriors since their rise to stardom four years ago. He knows that when a team reaches the top, a wave of criticism will likely follow. He believes his team is conditioned to handle it.

I think maybe that comes from being a team that's been scrutinized for the last three or four years, that's used to a lot coverage, which they've earned and deserve.
He singled out head coach Steve Kerr, who, in his playing days, was also part of a team that attracted scrutiny. Given this fact, Myers believes that Kerr is guiding the players to focus and look in the right direction.
“You've got players that have been in a spotlight position and Steve, who's got great experience as a player, playing with some high-level guys, coaching our team. He really is kind of the steward of that ship as far as keeping our locker room intact and in a good place, but it's not easy. It's a hard thing to do. But I don't sense any of that creeping in from my perspective.”
As of this writing, the Warriors are on a six-game winning streak. It's good proof that the Warriors are clicking on all cylinders and in perfect midseason form. It's also good proof that Myers is right. Rumors are not affecting his team at all.
