Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson tore his ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals earlier this month, but the Warriors are hoping he is back in February or March, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.

Of course, that is assuming Thompson re-signs with Golden State, as he is set to be a free agent this summer.

However, barring the Warriors not offering Thompson a max deal, the general consensus is that the sharpshooter will absolutely re-up with Golden State this offseason.

Thompson suffered his injury in the third quarter, when he was attempting a fast break layup and was fouled hard by Toronto Raptors guard Danny Green. The contact caused Thompson to land awkwardly, and he lay writing in pain clutching his knee.

The 29-year-old then headed to the locker room, but because he would not be eligible to return to the game if he didn't shoot his free throws, he came back out on to the court to the delight of the crowd at Oracle Arena and sunk both foul shots.

He then proceeded to run back on defense, but the Warriors committed a foul to get him out of the game. He did not return and was then diagnosed with a torn ACL.

On the season overall, Thompson averaged 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals over 34 minutes per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor, 40.2 percent from three-point range and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line en route to his fifth straight All-Star appearance.

Thompson was originally drafted with the Warriors back in 2011.
