Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors played their final game of the regular season. In that game, a win over the New Orleans Pelicans, third-year guard Jordan Poole officially became the best free-throw shooter of the 2021-22 NBA season. He beat out teammate and mentor Stephen Curry for the highest percentage in the league.
Steve Kerr said Curry texted Poole before the game and told him he better not miss, but No. 3’s true motivation came from his mother, Monet Poole.
“Ever since I was young, she (mom) told me it wasn't nobody guarding me at the free-throw line,” Poole told ClutchPoints. “So I shouldn't be missing too many. Shoutout to mom, that one was for you.”

Poole said his new accomplishment hasn't sunk in yet. In Warriors practice, Poole challenges Curry often, whether it's half-court shots or free throws. In-game free throws were a friendly competition too. It was a race that Poole won.

“It feels pretty awesome, especially to be in competition with one of your teammates. Big bro (Stephen Curry) is arguably the best free-throw shooter in NBA history. So it's pretty cool.”

Poole put together a spectacular regular-season campaign for the Warriors in 2021-22, averaging career highs in every statistical category. The former Michigan standout averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 76 games. These numbers have him in the running for the Most Improved Player of the Year Award.
The underdog who wasn't invited to the 2019 NBA Draft but attended with his family anyways is in the history books. Now he's preparing for the biggest challenge of his young career, the NBA Playoffs.
