The start of the 2020-2021 NBA season has been one to forget for Golden State Warriors small forward Kelly Oubre Jr., as he started 0-of-17 from beyond the arc before playing the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday. After he shot 35.2% from 3-point range with the Phoenix Suns last season, the Warriors entered the season banking on the fact Oubre would contribute the long ball.

Oubre finally got the monkey off his back Tuesday, and the Warriors went wild on the bench to celebrate:

While Oubre went just 1-of-4 from deep for the game to give him a 1-of-21 mark for the season, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn't worried about the extended slump. According to Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area, Kerr brought up the time when sharpshooter Klay Thompson started the 2018-2019 NBA season shooting 5-of-36 from 3-point land before shooting 40.2% for the season. The hope is Oubre will take this lesson to heart:

“You just want to get that one out of the way…I told Kelly the other day, Klay's had at least two seasons, maybe three, where he's started out 5-for-30 something and just couldn't buy one. And then the games keep coming, you finally have a good game, and then you sort of end up kind of where you should in terms of your shooting percentage and all that,” Kerr had to say after beating the Pistons.

Now that Oubre has made a 3-pointer, perhaps he'll relax a bit more and contribute effectively on both ends of the floor for Golden State. After winning their last two games, the Warriors, led by Stephen Curry, are starting to find a rhythm, and the return of Draymond Green should only help the team find a groove after getting blown out twice to start the season.
