Unlike Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors had an easier time disposing of the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2, taking a 2-0 series lead thanks to a 122-103 win on Sunday over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Stephen Curry gets most of the credit for the victory, and deservingly so, as the hot-shooting point guard top-scored for the Warriors with 33 points on the strength of an insane 9-for-17 shooting from behind the arc to set a new NBA Finals record. Curry’s masterclass in 3-point shooting, however, shouldn’t get Kevin Durant’s own fantastic performance overlooked.

Durant pummeled the Cavs with 26 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field. His more efficient offense was also a big reason why the Warriors were never really threatened by Cleveland in Game 2. Back in the series opener, Durant scored 26 points also, but it took him 22 shots to get there.

Furthermore, Durant finished Game 2 with a box plus/minus of +24, his best in a Finals game so far in his career, as noted by Stat Muse.

Other than bringing a potent offense to the table for the Warriors, Durant supplies his team with an immense defensive anchor. Durant had success covering LeBron James in Game 2, even playing a key role in holding the four-time MVP scoreless for over 12 minutes during one stretch in the game. He’s expected to play the same dual role in Game 3 this Wednesday when the Warriors take their turn as the road team in the series.

Durant is averaging 28.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game in these playoffs.
