The first fan voting returns for the NBA’s 2021 All-Star Game are in, and among guards in the Western Conference, it is Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry who received the most votes. Meanwhile, forward Andrew Wiggins placed seventh in the frontcourt, receiving 264,781 votes.
But while Curry’s 2,113,178 votes and even Wiggins’ strong showing are no surprise, one of their teammates also received strong consideration from fans: Klay Thompson, who received 99,094 votes and placed 10th among guards, via The Athletic's Shams Charania. Thompson’s inclusion is surprising given that he hasn’t played this season after tearing his right Achilles tendon back in Nov. 2020.

The 30-year-old guard is a five-time All-Star aside from being an important part of three championship-winning Warriors teams but hasn’t been on the court since Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. Nevertheless, his inclusion means that the other half of the Splash Brothers remains popular among fans even if he hasn’t played in a while.
Thompson continues to make progress from his injury and was even able to join his teammates as they traveled to Texas for a road trip, the first trip he’s made with the Warriors this season. However, it is unlikely that he returns this season, as Golden State will likely be cautious and will not rush him back, even as fans remain excited to see him back on the court and playing at a high level once more.
Without Thompson, the Warriors currently have an 11-10 record, with Curry shouldering most of the team’s scoring load. They play the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday in the first game of their Texas road trip.
