Amid all the early dismissals of the Golden State Warriors' chances in the upcoming NBA season, Klay Thompson still expects his team to be in playoff contention in the stacked Western Conference.
Per Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times, Thompson is aware that teams such as the LA Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers have made big-time moves over the summer which drastically powered up their roster. Not just them, but other teams in the West have gotten better. The five-time All-Star acknowledges that it's going to be more difficult in the upcoming season. But he still believes that they have a good chance.
“The West is so stacked, not just with the Lakers and Clippers but the Jazz made great moves, the Nuggets are young and upcoming, the Blazers have an amazing backcourt, the Rockets have a two-headed monster in the backcourt with two MVPs still in their prime,” Thompson said. “So it’s going to be tough for us, but I assume I’m going to be on the court at some point and hopefully I’ll hit the ground running and we’ll be in playoff contention. That’s all we need is just a shot.”

Thompson, who went down with an ACL injury in the NBA Finals, does not expect himself to be back by the All-Star break. As such, the Warriors will have to rely on two-time MVP Stephen Curry, defensive stalwart Draymond Green, and new addition D'Angelo Russell to carry the load.
Indeed, it'll be a tough 2019-2020 season for the three-time champions. But for the past five years, they have proven time and time again that they can churn out a stellar season even when the odds are stacked against them. This upcoming season will be no different.
