Klay Thompson made his return from a two-game absence on Tuesday night as the Golden State Warriors decimated the Dallas Mavericks, 130-92. The five-time All-Star looked good in his return and he managed to make an impact for his team despite his limited run.
After the win, Thompson revealed the details of his most recent injury and at this point, it's not exactly the type of news Warriors fans will be happy to hear:
“Yeah, just a little soreness,” Thompson said while wearing his captain's hat as he addressed the media, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I kinda had a little hyperextension in the previous game. It was sore. It was a little swollen. Lucky for me the swelling went down and I was able to play tonight and have fun while doing it.”

The good news is that Thompson appears to have put this minor knee injury behind him. Nevertheless, the fact that he hyperextended the knee still remains to be a cause for concern. Klay is playing in his first season after two brutal years on the sidelines nursing a couple of major injuries. He's not exactly the most robust player out there, so any type of injury for the 31-year-old is something worth keeping an eye on.

Thompson finished Tuesday's blowout with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, to go along with two rebounds and six assists. He also went 3-of-6 from distance and most importantly, he logged a season-high 26 minutes of action. Thompson is still on a strict minutes limit but it does seem like everything's going according to plan in terms of coach Steve Kerr gradually increasing his workload.
Against the Mavericks, Thompson got the nod to start the second period for the Warriors. Klay also spoke about that opportunity as he expressed how he hopes to move forward with the same:
“Especially at my age and what I've been through. It felt good to start the second,” Thompson said (h/t Joey Linn of FanNation). “I was loose and I was active. Hopefully we can learn from it.”
The Warriors return to action on Thursday against the Minnesota Timberwolves and barring any unforeseen setbacks, we fully expect Thompson to be in the starting lineup for that one.
