In the last three seasons, the Golden State Warriors have become the top team in the league behind their talented and deep roster.

One of the key cogs to the Warriors' success has been All-Star guard Klay Thompson, who has become one of the league's top two-way players. However, there has been some concern arising about his long-term future with the team beyond his current contract, which he has just two years left worth around $36.8 million.

During a recent interview on a podcast with Marcus Thompson and Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, Thompson voiced that he would likely consider taking a discount to remain with Golden State. (h/t Chris Barnewell of CBS Sports)

Kawakami: “Could you (take a discount?”)

Klay Thompson: “I probably could, yeah. That much? I don't know. I don't make as much as Kevin off the court.”

“If it's a few million … It's a blessing whatever contract I sign. I would definitely consider it cause I don't want to lose anybody.”

There is certainly a strong sense that Thompson could command a lucrative contract if he were to hit the free agent market that could see him receive several max contract offers from various other teams. However, the 27-year-old appears to be committed to the Warriors long term given the team's success and potential to add a few more titles over the next handful of seasons.

Thompson did experience some difficulty in finding his place within the offense throughout last season as the third option, but he started to find his way late in the playoffs and in the NBA Finals. This included a 30-point outing in Game 3 that helped shift the momentum of the series almost entirely in the Warriors' favor.

If Thompson holds true to his word, this could help keep the Warriors' championship window open for many more years down the line.
