While much has been said about Stephen Curry's offensive prowess, little has been discussed about his defense. If there were any talks, fans and experts alike point out how much of a liability he is despite evidence that the Golden State Warriors guard is actually a good defender.

Amid all the criticisms hurled at him, Curry delivered a stern message to his critics.

Per Drew Shiller of NBC Sports, the Warriors superstar expressed his belief that he's doing his job on the defensive end, which entails taking on a challenge, exerting effort and achieving consistency.

“I do my job, man,” Stephen Curry said on a Monday afternoon conference call. “And know exactly what I need to do to hold up my bargain on that end of the floor. It's my job to take those challenges, take those matchups, and just compete. Bring effort.

“It's all about effort, it's about consistency (and) just the want-to to be in the right place at the right time. Definitely up for that challenge.”

For those who have followed Curry, it's a regular sight to see him being forced into mismatches. Maverick Carter, LeBron James' business associate, even infamously declared he could beat the Warriors guard despite not having played ball for quite some time. Carter's claims seem like careless utterings, as statistics reveal that Curry ranked in the top 10 in defensive win shares from 2015 to 2019. He was also in and the top six in defensive rating from 2015-2017.

Curry himself is aware of the criticisms and the praises for his defense. But at the end of the day, the three-time NBA champion doesn't care that much.

“I've gotten a lot better,” Curry added. “Whether I get that acknowledgement or not, I don't care … I do my job. I know when I'm locked in and when I'm not, and what that looks like.”

The 2020-21 NBA season marks the return of the Warriors back to contender status. Fans can expect Curry to drain a load of threes as usual, but they need to also keep an eye on him on the defensive end to see the most ignored and lambasted part of his game.
