San Francisco, CA – The Golden State Warriors clinch the 8-seed in the play-in tournament behind another electric performance from the 2020-21 scoring champion Stephen Curry, who dropped a game-high 46 points on Sunday.

This game was Curry's first-ever matchup against reigning rookie of the year Ja Morant. Curry, a much-improved defender, guarded Morant more than you would imagine during the game. In his postgame interview, he explained why he decided to defend Morant.

“Just the matchup,” Curry said with a grin. “You can't get a feel for somebody until you play them. So might as well. I was locked in,” Curry told ClutchPoints.

Taking on the task of Morant's primary defender didn't slow down the offensive machine named Stephen Curry. In this game, like so many other games, he registered 30+ points in just three quarters.

The Warriors dominated the game in the first three quarters. But an aggressive Memphis Grizzlies team led by the energy of Dillon Brooks would not lay down and quit. Before fouling out of the game, Brooks single-handedly tied the game up.

But in closing time, it was all Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Curry hit a huge three with 1:35 on the clock that was ultimately the dagger in the hearts of the Grizzlies. Raising his jersey and giving a series of Rick Flair (woo, woo) in celebration, he knew the game was over.

The Warriors finished the year 39-33 and secured the 8-spot in the play-in tournament. They will face the 7-seed on Wednesday as they start their journey in the NBA's first-ever play-in tournament.
