D'Angelo Russell recently joined new teammate Stephen Curry for some of his summer workouts ahead of what's soon to be a new backcourt partnership between them. The two reviewed their first interaction as positive, but Curry's trainer, Brandon Payne, was encouraged by what he saw as the two took the court.

“We’ve had D-Lo in for workouts, so we’ve had the opportunity to have them work together and kind of get to know each other,” Payne, the founder/owner of Accelerate Basketball Training, told Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. “That’s been productive. It gave D-Lo a glimpse into what we do on a daily basis, and I think that was good for him to see. I think that backcourt pairing is going to be really nice.”

Curry will be forced to play within his trusty backcourt partner Klay Thompson for a long stretch since the first two years of his career, and odd feeling that will quickly have to evaporate if the Warriors are to hold down the fort until his return.

Thompson is not only an elite marksman, but also the one player Curry has played the longest with — making that a significant dropoff from what he can expect from D'Angelo Russell, who is brand new to the system.

The hope is that the two point guards can not only coexist in the same backcourt but feed off each other, building enough chemistry to have the Warriors within striking distance of the playoffs after many years of dominating as the favorites to take the title.
