Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was interviewed recently regarding the NBA’s plan to improve player-referee relationships. From Kerr’s perspective, the five-pronged initiative was a good move for the league.

Kerr likes that the NBA is taking steps in trying to smoothen the damaged rapport between the players and the game officials. Here's Steve Kerr talking with Mark Medina of The Mercury News about his opinions on the initiative.

Steve Kerr's reaction to the planned sit-down meeting of players and referees stands directly on the opposite end of Warriors forward Kevin Durant's views. For Durant, the series of mini-conferences between the two sides are going to be “pointless.”

Members of the NBA player and referee unions are scheduled to meet during All-Star Weekend to discuss recent issues between the two factions that have resulted in a growing rift between the two.

Players have been complaining about referees having a “quick whistle” with stars getting tossed out of games more frequently. National Basketball Players Association president Chris Paul and vice president Carmelo Anthony have been some of the harshest critics of today’s refereeing.

Here’s the official statement coming from the NBA, via Yahoo:

“As a league, we take great pride in standing for the best things about sports: competition, teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, diversity and inclusion,” Spruell said. “Recently we have seen instances in which we have not lived up to our own collective standards with regard to sportsmanship. It is important for us to place a renewed emphasis on proper communication and respect to make sure we are meeting the standards expected from all members of the NBA family.”

The All-Star Weekend will be held from February 6-8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
