Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr knows plenty about back issues.
So when he heard Tiger Woods was making his return to golf after his own struggles with his back in recent years, Kerr couldn't contain his joy, per Connor Letourneau of SF Gate.
“I’m so happy for him,” Kerr said after practice Thursday night at Amway Center. “Mainly just because he’s out there playing.”
Kerr had back surgery in 2015, but suffered from complications due to leaking cerebrospinal fluid. As a result, Kerr often felt very will and had to step away from coaching on two occasions.

While Woods did not have the exact same issues with his back as Kerr, the injuries have derailed his career. He just recently came back to play golf and fared well in his first two rounds of the Hero World Challenge.
Kerr admitted that because of his back issues, the return of Woods had a special meaning for him.
“I think when you go through a back injury, you understand other people who have been through it,” Kerr said. “Before I had a back issue, I would’ve just gone, ‘Oh, that’s awesome, Tiger’s back.’ Now, it goes much deeper than that. I know the pain he’s going through, even though our situations are much different. I’m just so happy to see him out there playing and doing what he loves to do, back at it again. Whether he wins or not, you can tell he’s happy.”
It's always great to see athletes return to what they love after suffering debilitating injuries. Kerr proves that no matter what sport it is, being an athlete is like being part of a family.
