Despite their grim fortunes in the 2019-20 NBA regular season, Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors still managed to have some fun at the expense of their injured superstar Stephen Curry on Tuesday.
The two-time MVP, who has been out since October due to a broken left hand, finally joined the Dubs in their first practice since the All-Star break.
With Curry expected to return sometime next month, the Warriors made sure he won't be taking any unnecessary contact that might derail his comeback.
Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Curry wore a red jersey in practice — similar to what NFL quarterbacks wear in scrimmages to remind defenses to ease up on him. In true Kerr fashion though, he revealed that the team was calling Steph “Tom Brady” for the attire.
Steph Curry was in a red jersey for practice today. It meant: Don’t touch. Steve Kerr: “We were calling him Tom Brady.” Curry took part in all non-contact parts of practice. Won’t scrimmage this week. Full update here. pic.twitter.com/C8L5ObMBuJ

The one-time coach of the year recipient also revealed that Stephen Curry participated in defensive drills, skill work, shooting and offensive scripting. However, the two-time MVP still sat out the contact parts of practice and will not participate in scrimmages this week.

In an appearance during Klay Thompson's jersey retirement ceremony, Curry bared that returning early March has always been the plan. He looked good during the team's shooting drills and knocked down his usual shots with ease.
Curry only managed to suit up in four games for Golden State this season and averaged 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game.
The Warriors will likely miss the playoffs for the first time since 2012. No one would fault Curry if he chooses to follow his fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson on sitting out the year and just re-join the team next season.
However, it seems that Chef Curry is focused on getting some rhythm back before going for a bounce-back season next year.
