It looks like the Golden State Warriors are truly embracing the play-in tournament. Just ask head coach Steve Kerr and superstar guard Stephen Curry.

On Tuesday ahead of their play-in showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kerr opened up why he thinks the play-in is good for the NBA. Simply put, the new format injected life and intensity to the end of the season, which could be pretty boring if all teams have secured their playoff spots early.

With the play-in though, the seventh and eighth seeds in each conference remain up for grabs–with the ninth and 10th seeds given a chance to snatch a postseason berth.

“It's great for the league. It's kept the interest in late-season games much higher,” the Warriors coach added.

Prior to Steve Kerr's comments, Stephen Curry made similar comments on the play-in even before the Warriors secured the eighth seed in the West. While he doubts the play-in will extend beyond the 2020-21 season, he highlighted that it's always good for the NBA to add some more entertaining basketball ahead of the playoffs.

“It will be interesting to see if it lasts beyond this year when we get back to an 82-game schedule. I don’t think it will, but this year it is what it is,” Curry shared, per Nick Friedell of ESPN.

“But it’s looking like it’s going to be some entertaining, fun, dynamic basketball. And if you can get to that point in any situation that’s good for the league.”

True enough, there is a lot of hype and excitement going on for the play-in, especially with Curry and Co. playing LeBron James and LA in the battle for the seventh seed. It is also worth noting that the final games of the regular season generated so much intensity and coverage as three teams in the West actually ended up needing the tie-breaker rules to determine the seedings.

While not everyone is a fan of the play-in, there is no doubt that it has added so much fun and a new dynamic to the usual format.
