At the end of his NBA career, Golden State Warriors big man JaVale McGee’s lasting basketball legacy will be defined by his countless appearances on Shaqtin’ A Fool. That said, we should not forget the fact that McGee is one of the most athletically gifted players to play in this generation. And on Thursday night, McGee displayed his nasty blend of bounce and speed for a seven-footer. In one particular sequence during the game against the Milwaukee Bucks, JaVale McGee stuffed Khris Middleton’s dunk attempt before running the length of the floor to finish a transition attack with a slam.

Sorry, Shaq. But that’s not good (or bad) enough to be part of your countdown. This is not the Tragic Bronson that Shaq loves to skewer, as McGee did everything right on that play. His timing of Middleton’s shot was immaculate, his recognition of a potential fast break was there, his catch of Quinn Cook’s lob pass from the three-point area was smooth, and his finish was violently pleasing to the eyes of the thousands of cheering Warriors fans inside the Oracle Arena.
Although the Warriors picked up a 116-107 loss to the Bucks, JaVale McGee at least avoided any reason for Shaq to make fun of him. McGee finished the game with 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field with two blocks. He did not grab any rebounds in the 15 minutes on the floor, but he also did not record any turnovers.
McGee is averaging only 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game so far this season.
