The recent tragic event of the Florida shooting has rocked the nation with the entire country taking notice and seeking justice for the victims. The NBA family has been vocal about tragedies such as these, calling for action from the government to make swift and effective measures to prevent similar events from happening in the future.

“Nothing has been done. It doesn't seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools. It doesn't matter that people are being shot at a concert, in a movie theater. It's not enough, apparently, to move our leadership, our government, people that are running this country, to actually do anything. That's demoralizing.

But we can do something about it. We can vote people in who actually have the courage to protect people's lives and not just bow down to the NRA because they've financed their campaign for them. So, hopefully we'll find enough people, first of all, to vote good people in, but hopefully we can find enough people with courage to help our citizens remain safe and focus on the real safety issues. Not building some stupid wall for billions of dollars that has nothing to do with our safety, but actually protecting us from what truly is dangerous, which is maniacs with semi-automatic weapons just slaughtering our children. It's disgusting.”

The eloquent and outspoken Kerr has been vocal about his displeasure with the Trump administration. The Warriors refused to attend the customary appearance at the White House by the current NBA champions. The organization elected to decline the invitation with the entire team voicing out their reasons for not wanting to attend. This was an unprecedented move by an NBA team and one that could be a precursor to the next NBA champions during President Donald Trump’s tenure.

Kerr’s strong and inspiring words could be a rallying cry for fellow coaches, players, and people in the front office to speak out during this difficult time.

Earlier Wednesday, during Valentine’s Day of all times, at least 17 people were reported killed in a shooting from a high school in Parkland, Florida, according to CNN. The suspect was identified as a Nikolas Cruz, a 19-year old former student who was expelled for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.
