Dwyane Wade spoke to the media today for the first time since being traded to the Miami Heat. During his media availability, Wade addressed a variety of topics. One of them was about what LeBron James said when Wade's return to the Heat was made official.

The four-time MVP said that Wade's heart and mind were always in Miami. And in Anthony Chiang article for The Palm Beach Post, Wade echoed James' comments:

“To play with (James) again, etc. I think he [saw] that I watched closely with Miami all the time. If I was watching something he would say, ‘What you doing?’ Checking the Miami score and different things like that.”

As much as fans wonder what might have been if James re-signed with the Heat after their 2014 Finals loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Wade says James and him recall a lot of the things they did together:

“Me and him, we appreciate the times and moments we had. You don’t like to be in other environments saying ‘Remember when we were in Miami?’ We definitely had those conversations with each other about some of the things we did and how it was done and why it was done. Definitely, I’m happy to be back.”

Both James and Wade knew it was time. As fun as it was playing together again and having a surprisingly good stretch of winning basketball at one point during the season, it was obvious the Cavs needed a change in direction. Wade was not necessarily hurting them, but overall the team was not working and the struggles were very concerning.

The aftermath of the trade deadline left a bunch of people happy. But probably nobody ended as happy as Wade.

“My eyes and heart were always here. I said that from the beginning. It wasn’t going to go anywhere. I had a different zip code and jersey on my body, but who I am in the core, deep down inside, I was always here.”
