If the Miami Heat lacked fire on the court during Sunday’s 120-95 loss at home to the Indiana Pacers, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra provided just what the team lacked during the post-game press conference.

Speaking in front of reporters, Spoelstra ripped his team for its sluggishness against Indiana.

via Ira Winderman of The Sun-Sentinel:

“Look,” he said, after arriving to his media session quicker than usual, “I don't have an answer to our unreliability right now. We had our most inspiring effort — not perfect game, but inspiring effort — in Washington, and then this is the other side of us. I don't have an answer for it. One way or another, we're going to get down to the bottom of it. Because that's pretty much my comment right now — everything else I need to look at the film, assess, and find some solutions — I don't have answers right now for why we give up 120 points and have an uninspiring play. I don’t.”

Spoelstra was clearly irked by his team’s effort, particularly on defense. Miami let the Pacers shoot 60 percent from the field. Indiana also went 11-of-23 from the three-point area and outscored Miami in the paint (44-40) and in transition (13-7).

That the Heat put up a lethargic performance just two days after they beat Eastern Conference contender Washington Wizards, 91-88, only added to the deflating feeling Spoelstra was having following the loss.

Miami can’t afford to show up with the same listlessness going forward. Their mettle and ability to turn things around will be put on an acid test this Wednesday when Miami hosts the rampaging Boston Celtics.
