The Houston Rockets just made history on Thursday night.

As time was winding down in the first quarter of their game against the Portland Trail Blazers, James Harden knocked down a three-pointer to cut into their deficit. However, it wasn't just any ordinary one as it allowed them to break the single season record for most three-point field goals made by a team.

With majority of the Rockets players having the ability to shoot threes like Harden, Trevor Ariza, Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson, just to name a few, it became easier for them to set the new record. It also helps that head coach Mike D'Antoni is a fan of taking shots from that distance, as long as the opportunity presents itself. His players have also shown throughout the course of the campaign that they are comfortable with the system he has in place.

Earlier in the season, the Rockets also recorded the most threes in a single game, which was eventually surpassed by the Cleveland Cavaliers this month with 25 against the Atlanta Hawks.

The season record was previously held by the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors who made 1,077 shots from beyond the arc, en route to their historical 73-9 season.
