Vince Carter on Wednesday played against his former team, the Brooklyn Nets.
And as a 20-year veteran who spent some of the best days of his career in a Nets uniform when the franchise was in New Jersey, Carter is very open to the idea of the franchise one day retiring his number, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Article Continues Below“Of course,” Carter said of having his jersey retired by the Nets, for whom he played five high-flying seasons. “When you hear people talk about it, of course. For years to come, you walk in here and see your name in the rafters in an arena, a professional arena, that’s your dream come true for every player. It’s a goal for guys. It means you’ve had a phenomenal career for that team. I would never tell them no, I’ll tell you that.”
As a member of the Nets, Carter led the team to three playoff appearances in five years while averaging 23.6 points. He is arguably one of the best Nets players in the last 20 years.
Carter said it would be a “dream come true” if the franchise retired his number. From the Nets' perspective, Carter is so much engrained in that team's history that it would make a lot of sense for that to happen.
