The New York Knicks have received some much-needed good news with starting center Enes Kanter now probable to play in Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Kanter has missed the Knicks' last three games due to back spasms. His absence has coincided with New York losing three games in a row, with all three losses coming by 12 or more points.

Kanter had started all 17 of the Knicks’ games prior to his injury. He’s averaging 13.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in 26.2 minutes on the season, his first in New York after arriving from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the offseason.

But while Kanter could be healthy enough to play against the Heat, it’s unlikely that he will be back to 100 percent effectiveness just yet.

Kyle O’Quinn has started the last three games at center for the Knicks in Kanter’s absence. He had a huge game with 20 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort against the Houston Rockets, but was limited to eight points and 11 boards in the Knicks’ most recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

O’Quinn should continue to start and get the majority of the minutes in the middle for the Knicks if Kanter can’t go. He could also see more playing time if Kanter does suit up but is still hampered by his back.
