LeBron James' move to the Los Angeles Lakers was an effort for him to snag another championship. This is what fans and critics assumed. Now, the world hears from James himself on why he decided to don the purple and gold.
For the first time, James speaks about his latest and probably last free agency decision. As reported by Lakers beat reporter Mike Trudell:
“Timing is everything. For me to be in this position, the excitement that I have to be a Laker, I’m happy to be a part of it because I believe the Lakers is a historical franchise … a championship franchise and that’s what we’re trying to get back to.”
Slowly and surely, the Lakers are getting back to their winning ways. The last time they were in the playoffs was back in the 2012-13 season. Over the last five years, they have piled up losing records along with several coaching changes.
In the 2013-14 season, the Lakers were 27-55 under Mike D'Antoni. The next two seasons, they were helmed by Byron Scott wherein they finished a record of 21-61 and 17-65. For the past two years under Luke Walton, the Lakers finished with regular season records of 26-56 and 35-47.
Indeed, the franchise has taken little steps to get them back to playoff contention. Paired with James' history of turning bottomfeeders into championship contenders, everything looks good for the purple and gold.
